Web site 101
To have a web site you need to buy a domain name for example www.sample.com and a hosting company which is a company to host your website. Your site will be on their servers and they will provide basic infrastructure and more to allow your site to be on the internet. Aside from a domain and hosting, you just need to code it or have someone code it for you.
Sounds simple but the domain and hosting costs are ongoing, not one time. The coding can be easy to more complex. You can hire someone to do the coding for you and to help and advise you on the domain and hosting purchase, or do it all yourself.
There are many reasons why you may want a website. A hobby, a photographer, an online store, a vlog are a few of the obvious. if you do an internet search you may find ads for Shopify, Squarespace, Wix and more. A very popular choice is WordPress. It is free to use. If you want an online store then you add on WooCommerce to it. This is what we use for our sites and what we sell. We look for the least expensive yet quality domain providers and hosting companies. When we build a site for you we are careful not to waste money on extras. The cost to do the coding only part in WordPress can range $200.00 – $500.00 as a onetime cost to you. Then you can decide if you want to maintain it yourself or let us do it for you for an annual fee.
